Martin Janecký
LeftoversMartin Janecký (*1980) is one of the most renowned glass sculptors in the world. He gained his artistic experience primarily in the United States, where he studied at the Pilchuck Glass School under the guidance of renowned artists Richard Royal and William Morris. Subsequently, he became a sought-after instructor at many art and craft schools worldwide, from Alaska to Australia. In 2019, he established his own glass studio, Janecký Studio, on Prague’s Kampa Island. His works are part of significant public and private collections both at home and abroad, and they are exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. Janecký’s sculptures immediately reveal his masterful craftsmanship combined with profound artistic sensibility. His work focuses on a challenging technique mastered by only a few people in the world—hand-shaping glass from the inside of a molten glass bubble, known as inside sculpting. The most frequent subjects of his sculptures are human heads and busts, reflecting his fascination with ancient cultures, Baroque and Classical sculptural portraits, as well as the work of Auguste Rodin, one of the greatest pioneers of modern sculpture. The overall impression of Martin Janecký’s work draws us into the deep thoughts and moods of the artist himself. While his sculptures do not carry his physical likeness, they can, in a certain sense, be perceived as his self-portraits.
