The Myth Wears Black

Black serves as the fundamental unifying colour that accentuates the monumental scale of Paulina Skavová’s sculptural works. It is an intense medium – a void in which the figure emerges in all its mystery. Colour does not dictate the form; instead, it follows it, just as a theme finds its shape in the body of a sculpture. For Skavová, black is not merely an optical element, but a governing principle that reinforces her sculptural vision. Subtle contrasts between materials give rise to dramatic configurations. The artist favours large-scale formats, as they enable her to conceive space scenographically. Her sculptures often function as archetypes charged with multiple meanings. The beauty of Skavová’s work lies in the absolute precision of her modelling. Here, formal perfection appears not as a constraint but as a state of equilibrium. The result is a body of work that radiates elegance – one that simultaneously reflects our own imagination. The exhibition becomes a space for open aesthetic experience, inviting viewers to contemplate beauty as a supreme category. “The Myth Wears Black” suggests that in black we can perceive art freed from illusion. In Skavová’s interpretation, the black form asserts itself as a modern declaration of power.
